Removing barriers to work and creating inclusive opportunities
for everyone.

At Inclusion Cayman, we believe employment is a cornerstone of independence, dignity, and community participation. Our Employment Pillar focuses on removing barriers to encourage long-term sustainable employment for persons with disabilities and creating pathways where individuals can thrive, contribute, and build sustainable careers.

Following the social model of disability, we focus on identifying and removing physical, attitudinal, and systemic barriers in work environments that prevent persons with disabilities from accessing meaningful employment.

Employment is a key pathway to independence, self-determination, and full participation in the economy. Our work centres on creating inclusive workplace environments where individuals are valued for their skills, talents, and contributions.

Tianna

Meaningful Employment at Conyers

Tianna “TT” Hurlston is an inspiring example of what inclusive employment can achieve. Four years ago, TT was connected with a role at Conyers through Inclusion Cayman’s Rotary Employment Partnership, a programme that builds intentional, supported pathways into meaningful work for persons with disabilities.

Today, TT thrives as an office assistant, supporting the operations team by keeping reception and common areas organised, stocking supplies, and helping maintain equipment. What stands out most in her journey isn’t just the job itself, but how it has transformed her everyday life: she has gained confidence, formed close friendships with colleagues, and become an integral part of the Conyers team.

TT describes her workplace as a second family, full of supportive and caring people, and says, “What I love most about my job is the people.” Her grandmother, Jessie, speaks proudly of how far TT has come, not only in her professional growth but in her sense of purpose and belonging.

TT’s story showcases Inclusion Cayman’s mission in action: meaningful employment isn’t just about a paycheck, it’s about agency, connection, and being valued in the community.

Tivon

Brewing Inclusion at Starbucks

Tivon Garraway is a 19-year-old barista at Starbucks in Camana Bay, whose story reflects the power of inclusive employment. With support from Inclusion Cayman, Tivon received tailored coaching through the job application and interview process, helping him secure his current role serving customers behind the Starbucks counter.

Tivon loves coffee and thrives in his workplace, where the friendly team and daily interactions have boosted his confidence and sense of belonging. He proudly embraces the independence that comes with earning his own income — even using his first paycheck to treat his sister and nephew to lunch, an experience that made him feel truly capable and valued.

At Starbucks, Tivon isn’t seen through the lens of disability. Instead he’s known for his hard work, reliability, and warm customer service. His sister, Felicia, has seen a remarkable transformation since he started working: he has become more confident, independent, and better able to manage tasks like budgeting on his own.

Tivon’s journey is a shining example of how inclusive hiring, backed by intentional support and community partnerships, creates real opportunities for people with disabilities to contribute, grow, and belong in the workplace.
